Jackson's Footprints
taken after he was born at the hospital

All in the Genes

Josh and I took newborn pictures of ourselves to the hospital so we could compare Jackson's features to ours and see who we thought he looked like most after he was born.

Most people that visited in the hospital said he looked like me (Sharla) overall, but I think he looks more like Josh (his mouth & chin especially).

What do you think??

Jackson's First Photo Shoot

Posted on February 27, 2008 01:57 by Sharla
Amy & Joel visited last weekend, and Joel was nice enough to bring his new camera and equipment and take some pictures of Jackson and us (Thanks Joel -- you rock!! -- and thanks to Amy for being an awesome photog assistant and suggesting some neat poses!!).  They turned out great!  Here are a few of our favorites -- some of them are going on the announcement, so in the interest of keeping it a "surprise," I'll wait to post the link to the rest of the pictures.

Happy Birthday Josh!

Josh's birthday was yesterday -- his first as a Dad!  Most of the day was spent just hanging out at the house with visitors and little Jackson.  But we did decide to have our first outing away from home (without the little one --- it was hard....and sad!) so we could go out to dinner to celebrate Josh's birthday.  We had planned to go to Old Stone Steakhouse, but found out they weren't open on Sundays, so Josh opted for Outback instead.

Although it was tough to leave our little guy (albeit in great hands with Aunt Stephanie), we did have a nice dinner and Josh even got the onion blossom, his favorite appetizer!

Here's a picture of us before our dinner date (do we even look like parents?!?!):

Jackson's 1 Week Check Up

Posted on February 25, 2008 23:42 by Sharla
Jackson went for his 1 week check up today at Caromont Pediatric Partners in Belmont and saw Dr. Brugman (the same doctor who checked him the day after he was born).  He was content and happy until the nurse made him take off all his clothes so he could be weighed and checked --- and once she exposed his diaper, he peed all over her!  Josh laughed and said Jackson was proclaiming "vengeance was mine!"

He's increased his weight to 9 lbs, 5 oz, but oddly enough his height measured at 21.5" (instead of the 22.5" recorded at birth).  His head circumference is at 14.5".  Here are the percentiles based on his measurements (from this neat calculator at BabyCenter.com):

Length = above percentile 95
Weight = between percentile 90 and 95
Head Circumference = in percentile 75

He really is a big boy!!  The Dr. decided that since he's gaining weight nicely, he won't need to visit again until his 2 month check up.

Here's a picture of Jackson in his JJ Cole Bundle Me hat before we left home for the appointment:

Jackson's First Week

Posted on February 25, 2008 06:45 by Sharla
Jackson is 1 week old today -- and this past week has gone by so fast!  He's already changed so much -- his complexion has evened out, he's lost most of the rashes he was born with, and he's lost his orange "tint."  He's also spitting up much less than the first couple of days, and he sometimes eats 3 ounces instead of the 1-2 we started with at first.  We've already discovered so many things about his personality, and I'm sure each week will bring new things as he continues to develop.

Jackson had a lot of visitors in his first week --- Grammy, Pappy, Maw-Maw, Aunt Angie, Cousin Nathan, Uncle Alan & Aunt Stephanie, Christy, Grandmother Collins, Christopher & Kara, the Badgetts, Amy & Joel, and Ben.  He's been oohed and ahhed over all week!  Here are some pictures of him with friends and family:

Jackson also had a lot of other firsts this week -- first outing (to my Moms in Motion class at the hospital at 2 days old), first ride in the car from the hospital, first diaper change by Dad, etc.  Here are some pictures of his first bath at home (all parties involved survived with minimal emotional trauma - haha!):

Jackson also had his first photo shoot with Joel & Amy this weekend -- we got some great shots, and will post some soon!

Looking forward to next week -- Jackson has his 1 week check up at the pediatrician.  We're also hoping to get out and take a few walks, weather permitting.  Other than that, still enjoying our time with the little man!!

Birth Announcement

Posted on February 24, 2008 21:43 by Sharla
Apparently, the Gaston Gazette automatically prints birth announcements in the paper each week based on birth certificates filed with the Register of Deeds.  We still plan to do a photo announcement if we can in both the Gaston and Charlotte papers, though.

Here's a link to the announcement with Jackson's birth:  http://www.gastongazette.com/articles/son_17365___article.html/daughter_gastonia.html

Thanks Mom for catching this for us online!

40 Weeks

Just for fun, here's my 40 weeks belly pic (Jackson was born the day after this picture was taken)

Videos

Here are a couple of short clips of Jackson from the last few days (from our digital camera, so not the best of quality).

Jackson doing some lung exercises --- so sad!

This is a short clip of Jackson doing something that ALWAYS makes me laugh -- it's so cute! When he's looking to suck at his pacifier or his hand, he shakes his entire head vigorously side to side with his mouth open -- hard to explain, but I love it and it always makes me giggle :)

Jackson's APGARs

Posted on February 21, 2008 18:43 by Sharla
I forgot to mention Jackson's APGAR scores in the birth story post -- they were 9 at 1 minute and 9 again at 5 minutes!  A very healthy little boy :)

Shortly after birth --- he definitely got a "2" on (R)espiration for all that crying!
