What a week! We had the great acid reflux debacle, starting a new medication / feeding style, and it was packed with events like Mother's Day and Stephanie's birthday (Happy 23rd!) :) It's been a busy and eventful one!
Some new developments of Jackson's:
- Standing up -- he loves standing on his legs all of a sudden, and usually prefers it to sitting or laying when we're playing with him.
- Holding his head up -- he's always had advanced head / neck strength for his age, but now he's starting to "protest" when laid down flat (only when we're playing -- luckily not at naps or bedtime) and he struggles to hold his head up for several seconds.
- Using his hands to discover more --- last week he was just learning to look at his hands. He quickly moved on to using them to his advantage -- to swipe and grab at toys and other things (I had my first encounter with him grabbing my hair yesterday -- ouch!). He also holds his hands together when he's sleepy or relaxed.
As for the acid reflux situation, we've definitely noticed an improvement in his symptoms. Almost immediately with adjusting his feedings by adding rice cereal, he was less fussy with eating and didn't spit up as much --- there was even one day where he didn't really spit up at all until 5:00 ish!!! That's a big deal, considering he usually would go through 2 or 3 bibs a day. And hopefully the medicine will help to reduce the acid in his stomach and make what does come up not as painful. He has been sleeping better this week -- some nights all through the night, and other nights waking up just a few times -- definitely none of the awful bedtime screaming though. He hasn't seemed to be in any pain except for last night -- he had a really long (about 1.5 hours) bout of painful upset crying. But once he was over it, he seemed to be completely ok. So hopefully that was just a one-off and he is really on the mend!
We ventured outside one evening because the weather was nice and wanted to give Jackson a chance to experience all the sensations of being outdoors. He seemed to enjoy it! Here are some pictures --
